WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE PARTNERSHIPS AND LEARNING FOR SUSTAINABILITY (WASHPALS). THE WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE PARTNERSHIPS AND LEARNING FOR SUSTAINABILITY (WASHPALS) PROJECT IS A CENTRALLY FUNDED ACTIVITY OF THE UNITED STATES AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (USAID) GLOBAL HEALTH BUREAU. WASHPALS SUPPORTS THE AGENCY'S GOAL OF REDUCING MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY IN CHILDREN UNDER FIVE BY ENSURING USAID PROGRAMMING EMPLOYS HIGH-IMPACT, EVIDENCE-BASED ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND WATER SUPPLY, SANITATION AND HYGIENE (WASH) INTERVENTIONS. THE PROJECT WILL IDENTIFY AND SHARE BEST PRACTICES INACHIEVING SUSTAINABILITY, SCALE, AND HEALTH IMPACT BY GENERATING EVIDENCE AROUND SANITATION AND HYGIENE PROGRAMMING PARADIGMS NECESSARY TO ELIMINATE OPEN DEFECATION (OD) AND MOVE COMMUNITIES UP THE SANITATION LADDER WHILE ALSO FOCUSING ON REDUCING FECES EXPOSURE FOR INFANTS AND SMALL CHILDREN THROUGH LESS-STUDIED BEHAVIORAL PATHWAYS WASHPALS IS BEING IMPLEMENTED BY THE FIRM TETRA TECH AND AQUAYA IS PROVIDING RESEARCH STUDIES UNDER A SUB-CONTRACT WITH TETRA TECH.
