CHARLESTON WINE + FOOD IS A CULTURAL ENTITY THAT INFUSES HOMEGROWN FLAVOR WITH TOP CHEFS, WINEMAKERS, AUTHORS, STORYTELLERS, ARTISANS, AND FOOD ENTHUSIASTS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE FOR A FIVE-DAY EVENT THAT SPANS THE FIRST FULL WEEKEND EACH MARCH. PEOPLE FIRST WE BELIEVE THAT CHARLESTON'S CULINARY COMMUNITY HAS RECEIVED WORLD-WIDE RECOGNITION BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE AND WORK IN OUR KITCHENS AND DINING ROOMS, ON OUR FARMS, BEHIND OUR BARS, AND IN FRONT OF OUR GUESTS. THE FESTIVAL BY THE NUMBERS THE 2019 FESTIVAL WELCOMED 25,746 GUESTS OF WHICH 11,741 ARRIVED FROM OUTSIDE THE CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA AREA. THE FESTIVAL HAD A 18,600,000 IMPACT OVER THE FIVE-DAY PERIOD. THE 2019 FESTIVAL INCLUDED 115 EVENTS: 22 SIGNATURE EVENTS 29 SIGNATURE DINNERS 6 HANDS-ON CLASSES 31 BEVERAGE WORKSHOPS 20 BRUNCHES + LUNCHES 7 EXCURSIONS EXPERTS AND OTHER TALENTED PROFESSIONAL IMPACTING THE EVENT: 372 CHEFS 146 BEVERAGE SPECIALISTS 47 ARTISTS, EXPERTS AND PURVEYORS 109 MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA GIVING BACK: OUR MEASURED ECONOMIC IS THE LARGEST MEASURE OF OUR GIVE BACK. IN 2019 THAT WAS MEASURED AT 18.6 MILLION OVER THE COURSE OF THE FESTIVAL. DURING THE 2019 FESTIVAL, 3,258 POUNDS OF RESCUED AND DONATED FOOD AND 40,000 WAS RAISED AND GIVEN TO ONE80 PLACE, A CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA NONPROFIT THAT PROVIDES FOOD, SHELTER AND HOPE TO ITS GUESTS. THE FESTIVAL ALSO PROVIDED: 3 SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING STUDENTS AT THE COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON ENROLLED IN A HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT PROGRAM. 20 EXTERNSHIPS - TWELVE ONE80 PLACE TRAINED GRADUATES AND 8 ENROLLEES THAT PARTICIPATED IN PAID EXTERNSHIPS. 29 INTERNS - TEN INTERNS AND NINETEEN COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON FELLOWS PARTICIPATED IN FESTIVAL PROGRAMS INCLUDING MANY FROM THE COLLEGE'S COMMUNICATION'S PROGRAM OFFERING A CAPSTONE EXPERIENCE WHERE THEY SERVE AS OUR "AGENCY OF RECORD."
