THE BIG HOUSE, APTLY NAMED, WAS THE CENTRAL HUB OF OPERATIONS FOR THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND FOR THE FIRST FORMATIVE YEARS OF THE BAND FROM 1970- 1973. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND WERE THE PIONEERS OF THE MUSIC GENRE KNOWN TODAY AS SOUTHERN ROCK AND CONTINUE TO BE A LASTING INFLUENCE ON THE MUSIC WORLD. THE HOUSE WAS CONSIDERED "HOME" FOR THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND AND THEIR FAMILIES, ROADIES, AND FRIENDS IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES, AND IN 1993 BECAME HOME TO ONE OF THE BAND'S ROAD MANAGERS. AFTER WELCOMING FANS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE HOUSE SHOULD BECOME A MUSEUM TO SHOWCASE THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND'S MEMORABILIA AND CONTINUE THE LEGACY OF THE BAND. IN 2009, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND MUSEUM AT THE BIG HOUSE OPENED ITS DOORS AND CONTINUES TO BE A STAPLE IN THE MIDDLE GEORGIA COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS A TOP TOURIST ATTRACTION FOR MACON. IN 2018, THE BIG HOUSE MUSEUM CONTINUED ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL ARTS ORGANIZATIONS AND THE MACON CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU. THE BIG HOUSE MAINTAINED ITS STATUS AS THE SECOND MOST-VISITED TOURIST ATTRACTION IN MACON ACCORDING TO TRIPADVISOR.COM AND YELP.COM, AND RECEIVED THE 11TH HOUR MAGAZINE AWARD FOR "BEST TOURIST ATTRACTION" IN MACON FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW IN 2018, WE ALSO ALLOWED FREE ADMISSION TO THE BIG HOUSE MUSEUM FOR VINEVILLE ACADEMY'S LOCAL EDUCATIONAL CULTURAL CLASSES. 2018 ALSO SAW THE BIG HOUSE MUSEUM HOST ITS FIRST SUMMER JAM EVENT, A BENEFIT FOR THE BIG HOUSE FOUNDATION SHOWCASING TWO GENERATIONS OF BANDS ROOTED IN SOUTHERN ROCK MUSIC AND HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. IN 2018, THE BIG HOUSE FOUNDATION WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE AND PAY OFF THE PROPERTY BESIDE THE BIG HOUSE MUSEUM, 2353 VINEVILLE AVENUE. MANAGEENT IS IN THE PROCESS OF RAISING THE MONEY TO RENOVATE THE HOUSE. UPON COMPLETION, THE NEW PROPERTY WILL HELP THE MUSEUM FURTHER ITS MISSION. MANAGEMENT IS DEVELOPING A NEW EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM CALLED "REACH FOR THE SKY" THAT WILL BE ABLE TO HELP CHILDREN LEARN TO PLAY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS. THE PROGRAM WILL BE TAUGHT WITHIN THE NEWLY ACQUIRED PROPERTY. THE UPSTAIRS PORTION OF THE HOUSE WILL ALSO PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND THE MUSEUM'S ARCHIVES FOR FUTURE PROJECTS AND EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH.
