DOWNTOWN WOMEN'S CENTER PROVIDES HOUSING AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR WOMEN SEEKING ADDICTION RECOVERY AND THEIR CHILDREN. DWC HAS THREE ADDICTIONS RECOVERY SHELTERS, THREE RETAIL THRIFT STORES, AND OPERATES THE MERIDIAN APARTMENTS FOR LOW AND MODERATE INCOME MEN AND WOMEN, INCLUDING THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED. ABBA HOUSE WOMEN NEW IN RECOVERY WITHOUT CHILDREN BEGIN THE PROGRAM AT HAVEN HOUSE, A RECENTLY RECONSTRUCTED DORMITORY-STYLE HOME PROVIDING SAFETY AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR UP TO 20 WOMEN. THESE WOMEN MAY HAVE ADULT CHILDREN, NO CHILDREN, OR CHILDREN CURRENTLY IN FOSTER OR KINSHIP CARE. HAVEN'S SISTER FACILITY IS ABBA HOUSE, THE RECOVERY PROGRAM ENTRY POINT FOR PREGNANT WOMEN OR WOMEN WITH THEIR CHILDREN. ABBA PROVIDES 10 EFFICIENCY APARTMENTS WITH SHARED BATHROOMS AND A COMMUNITY LIVING ROOM. THE FIRST YEAR OF THE RECOVERY PROGRAM IS HIGHLY STRUCTURED. WOMEN ATTEND AND COMPLETE INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT AT AMARILLO RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOL AND DRUGS (ARAD) OPERATED BY CENIKOR. CASE MANAGERS ENSURE THE WOMEN ATTEND NIGHTLY AA/NA AND OTHER RECOVERY SUPPORT MEETINGS. THEY HELP WOMEN OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT, HEALTH CARE, CHILDCARE, AS NEEDED, AND IDS, DRIVER LICENSES, AND ATTEND TO LEGAL ISSUES WITH PROBATION OR PAROLE. CASE MANAGEMENT, COUNSELING, AND CLIENT SERVICES PROVIDE THE NECESSARY WRAP- AROUND SUPPORTS TO KEEP WOMEN ON THE PATH OF SOBRIETY TO PRODUCTIVITY. IN 2019, ABBA HOUSE SERVED 7 WOMEN AND 23 CHILDREN; HAVEN HOUSE SERVED 64 WOMEN. BOTH ARE SECURED FACILITIES AND ARE STAFFED 24/7.
