The Montana Learning Center at Canyon Ferry Lake (MLC) provides and promotes quality immersion experiences for all in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) in a unique lakeside environment. Primarily utilizing residence camps, the common goal across all programs is to foster analytical thinking skills and the ability to make connections across disciplines. Kids camps target students from elementary school through high school, with nearly 236 young campers in 2018, and focus on themes such as aerospace, earth science, or biology. All camp staff involved in programming are certified teachers, and projects include searching for and polishing Montana agates, analyzing samples taken from Canyon Ferry Lake, and building model planes and boats. The Montana Learning Center offers popular workshops for teachers to help encourage analytical thinking not only at camp but also throughout the regions educational system.
