About

VOICES OF SEPTEMBER 11TH (VOICES) CONTINUES ITS FOUNDING MISSION OF OFFERING INFORMATION AND SUPPORT FOR THOSE WITHIN THE 9/11 COMMUNITY. THIS INCLUDES THE FAMILIES OF THOSE LOST, THE RESCUE WORKERS AND SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES. VOICES STAFF PROVIDES DIRECT SOCIAL SERVICES SUPPORT FOR THOSE IMPACTED AND REFERRALS FOR ADVANCED MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED. IN ADDITION, THROUGH OUR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, WE UTILIZE OUR BEST PRACTICES AND LESSONS LEARNED TO HELP OTHER COMMUNITIES AND INDIVIDUALS HEAL OVER THE LONG-TERM FOLLOWING ACTS OF TERRORISM OR MASS VIOLENCE. VOICES IS CALLED UPON FOLLOWING MANY MASS VIOLENCE INCIDENTS TO OFFER ADVICE AND SUPPORT ON SHORT AND LONG-TERM NEEDS OF THOSE IMPACTED AND STEPS THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO HELP THE COMMUNITY AND INDIVIDUALS BUILD RESILIENCY. VOICES STRATEGY IS TO CONTINUE ITS CORE 9/11 COMMUNITY SUPPORT, CONDUCT RESEARCH ON LONG-TERM NEEDS AND HEALING WHICH IN TURN RESULTS IN ADDED EXPERTISE FOR OUR TEAM WHICH MAY BE INCLUDED IN EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND USED TO OFFER ADVICE IN OTHER MASS VIOLENCE OR TERRORISM INCIDENTS.THIS SUPPORT IS PROVIDED IN FOUR DISTINCT AREAS AS SUMMARIZED ON PART III, LINES 4A THROUGH 4D OF THIS FORM 990.VOICES CORE MISSION HAS REMAINED THE SAME SINCE THE NONPROFIT'S FORMATION. OUR WORK OVER 17+ YEARS THROUGH 2018 IS BASED ON CONTINUITY OF CARE OVER THE LONG TERM. OUR PRIMARY SUPPORT IN 2018 WAS DIRECTED TO THE 9/11 SURVIVORS AND RESPONDERS. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT ABOUT 490,000 PEOPLE WERE IN LOWER MANHATTAN ON 9/11/2001 AND THE MONTHS THAT FOLLOWED. BEING IN THE TOXIC AIR AT THAT TIME HAS RESULTED IN A MYRIAD OF PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. ABOUT 10% OF THE 490,000 ARE ENROLLED AND ABOUT HALF OF THE ENROLLEES ARE BEING TREATED THROUGH THE WORLD TRADE CENTER HEALTH PROGRAM (WTCHP) CLINICS AND SPECIALIST NETWORK. OUR ROLE IN 2018 WAS TO HELP PEOPLE THROUGH THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS AND ANSWER QUESTIONS. WE ALSO OFFERED SOCIAL SERVICES SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED WITHIN THIS POPULATION - INCLUDING SOME OF THE FAMILIES OF THE OVER 2,400 THAT HAVE DIED SINCE 9/11 DUE TO EXPOSURES.
