KiDS fulfills important needs, often through multi-year gifts, by lending support that may not be available from the hospital budget or other sources.Founded in 1991 by a group of parents and pediatric doctors KiDS has raised more than $26 million, principally through annual fundraising events. KiDS is unique among pediatric philanthropic efforts in that it provides funds to inpatient and outpatient programs that serve children throughout the Medical Center.KiDS has helped to-- Recruit a specialist in minimally invasive pediatric surgery- Renovate the neonatal intensive care unit- Expand the pediatric emergency medicine program at Tisch Hospital- Underwrite therapeutic and recreational activities for patients at Tisch Hospital, the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children's Center for Cancer and Blood DisordersThanks to the generosity of its donors, KiDS is able to award grants each spring to fulfill specific requests by the physicians, nurses and support staff who form the heart of the excellent pediatric care for which NYU is recognized.COMMUNITY SERVICE - KiDS helps to extend the knowledge and resources of NYU Medical Center physicians into the community.
