About
Tomchei Shabbos of Manhattan began assisting the Upper West and East Sides as well as the greater Manhattan community over 25 years ago. Originally called Oneg Shabbat of the West Side, it started in 1998 as a Bat Mitzvah chessed project, as one young woman decided that she wanted to provide Shabbat and Holiday food to those in the community unable to provide for themselves. The original goal was to make a meaningful difference for a few families. Starting with a handful of volunteers and a budget of only $25,000, Tomchei Shabbos of Manhattan has since provided over 500,000 meals and assists over 100 families each week, with an annual budget of almost $500,000 to assist our community’s needy.
