About this organization
Mission
The Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) seeks to make New York City and the world safe for religious differences by increasing respect and mutual understanding among people of different faith, ethnic and cultural traditions, and by bolstering cooperation among religious communities and civic organizations to solve common social problems.
About
- Religious Worlds of New York: The Religious Worlds of New York Summer Institute for K-12 Teachers was scheduled to be held from July 9 - 27, 2018. This was a project of ICNY and Union Theological Seminary with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The goal was to help K-12 teachers teach about the everyday life of American religious diversity, in addition to the conventional 'world religions' curriculum. Twenty-five selected school teachers from throughout the United States were planning to participate, to learn from scholars of religion, meet with diverse religious leaders, visit local houses of worship, conduct field research, and develop their own religious diversity curriculum projects. Unfortunately, the summer institute was cancelled on short notice, due to a health crisis for the institute director (and ICNY director of programs).
