Mission

New Yorkers for Children (NYFC) improves the well-being of youth and families in the child welfare system with an emphasis on older youth aging out of the system. NYFC provides direct educational, financial and emotional support and develops programs to fill gaps in the system in partnership with foster care agencies, community organizations, and the NYC Administration for Children’s Services.

About

Signature programs: NYFC has established several programs that provide tools and support to young people in foster care as they transition to adulthood. The Nick's Scholars program provides monthly in-person coaching sessions with a youth academic advisory, monthly stipends and related support, referrals to wraparound services, such as tutoring and mental health support, to students currently or formerly in foster care who attend NYC colleges. The Charles Evans Emergency Fund and the In Care Emergency Fund provide an emergency grant to youth who are in or have aged out of NYC foster care and are experiencing a financial crisis that could interrupt their education. Funds distributed have been used for housing, tuition, books and academic supplies. The Back to School program provides laptops and supplies to foster care youth enrolled in post-secondary education programs with the tools necessary to succeed. The package includes a laptop computer, software, gift cards and metro cards.
