The League of Women Voters of the City of New York Education Fund is as a 501(c)(3) public charitable organization. IT IS A NONPARTISAN ORGANISATION WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE INFORMED AND ACTIVE CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT AND ITS ELECTORAL PROCESS. It conducts the educational programs and the fund raising activities of the League of Women Voters of the City of New York. THE FOLLOWING ACCOMPLISHMENTS WERE MADE IN FISCAL YEAR 2018:Major programmatic efforts were made through the Voter and Telephone Information Services Committee that conducts voter registration events in public venues, and at the invitation of corporations, and high schools, and training sessions to train other voter registrars. Volunteers AND OFFICERS staff the Telephones to provide information to those calling about polling site locations, absentee ballots and contact information for their elected representatives. September;Participated in the National Voter Registration Day celebration in collaboration with the Bronx based organization Dominicanos USA to achieve greater outreach to the Spanish speaking population in the Bronx.Established a new LWVNYC committee: Voting Reform Initiative to advocate for election reform in New York State. The formation of the new committee grew out of a "meet and greet" at the Genesis Bar on the Upper East Side.Participated in debates:* The Bronx on Bronxnet*Brooklyn City Council*CC#40 district in Ditmas Park, Flatbush, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and part of Kensington,*CC #43 district in Bay Ridge*CC #4th district covering the East Side of Manhattan and Midtown in partnership with NYC Votes, CBS News and Hunter College. The debate was televised on a CBS channel.October:Helped plan and attended free public lecture series entitled: Towards a More Perfect Union: Making Your Voice Heard in October and November at the Forest Hills Library, Queens. This basic Civics 101 for adults had 7 meeting with a total attendance of over 525. It was a collaboration with Queens College's TAFT Institute for Government and neighborhood organization "It's Who We Are".Partnered with the Museum of the City of New York for their celebration of "Beyond Suffrage: A Century of NY Women in Politics".November:Commemorated the 100th anniversary, on November 6th, of Women Voting in NYS at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Several past and the current League Presidents attended.. Commissioner Pauline Toole of the NYC Department of Records and Information Services presented the League with a proclamation from the Mayor of the City of New York. Mike Ryan, Executive Director of NYC Board of Elections, gave a humorous and touching speech on how the right to vote for his daughters is so important to him.January:Marched in the Women's' MarchDeveloped a most wonderful partnership with the New York Society for Ethical Culture, holding our monthly Luncheon, Cocktails and other events with the League in their beautiful Ceremonial Hall.February;Held a Consensus on the the topic of Death with Dignity.Hosted Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochu/ who spoke on the importance of "Women in Politics: Elected Office, Voting Booth and on the Streets"Met with the new Ed Fund Advisory Board members at Alston & Bird Law Firm to discuss future plans for LWVNYCContinued the work for a fundraising event: Honoree; Committee to Protect Journalist, Event Chair Catherine Herkovic, SVP, Client Services, Nielsen, sponsors AppNexus, CiT and MNN(Manhattan Neighborhood Network) etc, etcMarch:Marched in the "March for Our Lives"April:Marched in the "March for Science" Rally May:Completed the designing and editing of What Makes New York City Run by the team of Adrienne Kivelson (writer), Judy Tashi (designed, Tiana Leonard (editor).
