About this organization
Mission
Sesame Workshop is the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, the pioneering television show that has been helping kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder since 1969. Today Sesame Workshop is a global educational force for change, with a mission to reach the world's most vulnerable children. We're active in more than 150 countries, serving kids through a wide range of media and philanthropically-funded social impact programs, all grounded in rigorous research and individually tailored to the needs and cultures of the communities we serve. Sesame is a beloved household name in dozens of languages, and it means learning – and fun – in all of them.
About
Creation and Distribution of Educational Media. Sesame workshop creates educational content for preschool children and distributes that content in the U.S. and around the world, across various media platforms including television, radio, print, online, mobile, digital and home entertainment. The content follows a whole child curriculum and is designed to give vulnerable children equal and early access to preschool learning. Sesame workshop is most well-known for its flagship educational program "sesame street." the show currently broadcasts multiple times a day in the U.S. on the public broadcasting service (PBS), which is available for free in 98% of households with televisions. In addition to its presence on PBS and other television and digital platforms, "sesame street" videos, interactive games and other educational content are available free of charge for users on www.sesamestreet.org, www.pbskids.org and www.youtube.com. Including its distribution on broadcast and cable TV and its presence on various digital platforms, "Sesame street" reaches 12.1 million kids ages 0-8 in the U.S. on a quarterly basis. Its continued popularity places it among the top 3 kids programs on PBS. Sesame workshop's free YouTube channel received over 1.1 billion views in fiscal year 2018 alone. Research has shown that children who watch "Sesame Street" consistently perform better academically at every grade level through high school and have more developed social skills. In fiscal year 2018, Sesame Workshop partnered with educational publisher McGraw-Hill Education to bring research-based Sesame content and expertise into pre-kindergarten and elementary school classrooms across the United States. The Workshops first integrated program incorporates critical social emotional learning skills such as empathy, self-awareness and resilience into McGraw-Hills industry-leading Wonders literacy programs for PreK and elementary students, equipping the youngest learners for success from the start. In the co-branded PreK-Grade 1 programs, students, educators and families will experience Sesame themed content incorporated holistically in a variety of ways, including easy-to-use teachers resources, weekly parent newsletters, and circle-time videos and lessons starring Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Elmo, and friends. Social emotional learning will continue through Grades 2-5 in developmentally-appropriate ways. The curriculum was available for review and adoption nationwide. "Sesame street" is seen in over 160 countries through distribution agreements with local public and commercial broadcasters. In addition, local adaptations of "Sesame Street" are produced and distributed in Germany, the Netherlands, Latin America, the gulf cooperation countries (GCC), South Africa, India, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
