About this organization
Mission
To maintain centers providing for examination, diagnosis and treatment of the mentally challenged.
About
The agency provides outpatient psychotherapy and related therapeutic services during the course of the year for a population of approximately 20,000 psychiatric patients including severely and persistently mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children. About 430 full & part time psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers and related paraprofessionals conducted approximately 375,000 patient visits in our clinic treatment programs and approximately 153,000 patient hours in our continuing day treatment programs during this fiscal year. We operated in 7 locations in Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens, including severely deprived communities. About 10% of the visits were provided free, or on a modest sliding scale, and Medicaid and Medicare paid for the remainder. The clinic's services are nearly 100% directed at indigent and lower-middle class patients. The majority of patients are severely ill; many are multiply handicapped.
