About

KVFD responded to 226 fires, alarms and mutual aid calls and 439 medical '911' emergency calls during 2018. The fire department delivers fire and ambulance mutual aid to surrounding towns in both Connecticut and neighboring New York state. In addition to the emergency services provided, the fire department conducted training and drill sessions for volunteer firefighters and ambulance personnel. KVFD also ran monthly fire department, ambulance and executive committee meetings. KVFD provided many activities during fire prevention week encouraging fire prevention and safety including holding an educational open house with a live-burn, hands-on fire extinguisher use lessons and by visiting local schools. During emergency medical services week, the department promoted public awareness by again offering an open house providing free blood pressure screenings, free 'File of Life' forms and tours of the two ambulances with demonstrations of related life-saving equipment. KVFD joined a Connecticut state program in 2014 which makes the town of Kent a heart-safe community, and has continued its commitment by instituting a program which provides improved cardiac response utilizing the 'Chain of Survival' for early 911 access, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, defibrillation and advanced care as well as CPR training to the public classes and town wide functions.
