About this organization
Mission
To increase the number of people engaged in volunteer and service activities in their communities.
About
Americorps program: Americorps is a federally funded national service program, which engages full and part-time volunteers in intensive, results-driven community service. In exchange for a year of service, members receive a modest living allowance and may be eligible to receive a post-service education award to assist repayment of existing qualified student loans or to defray future costs of college, graduate school, or vocational training at qualified institutions of higher education. Americorps members commit between 300 and 1,700 hours over the course of a year to federal and local priority areas including education, economic opportunity, veterans services, healthy futures, and more. Rhode Island's Americorps programs, funded through the commission, focuses on meeting critical educational and human needs by increasing educational opportunities and experiences for students in grades pre-kindergarten - 12 and access to resources for low-income individuals in the state. As the state commission, Serve Rhode Island provides support to subgrantee program staff and Americorps members, administers the annual grant process, and provides oversight for federal and state compliance to subgrantees.
