About

Orphanage - In 2006, the orphanage continued to thrive in a rented house in Hubli, Karnataka state, India. In May and June of 2006, we took in another four children, so the total from June through the end of 2006 was eighteen children that we took care of. In 2007, Latter Glory Ministries continued our work with the orphanage in Hubli, India. In June, we again enrolled the children into their schools to continue their education. We held our annual Christmas party in December 2007 and invited any living relatives of the kids, and some poor kids from the area. We provided a Christmas meal and gave gifts to all the kids who were present at the party. (See schedule O for ongoing ministry activity) In 2008 we once again focused on our orphanage in Hubli, India. A few of the children left our orphanage and returned to family members, who were able to take them back. This left us with 18 children in our care. The kids did well in their studies at school, which ended in March 2008. During their summer vacation (April & May), they took a vacation trip all together to Suri's (Solomon Devaraj) mother's home in Naregal. They spent 5 days there with Suri and Tammy and the family. The new school year began in June 2008. The oldest girl had graduated high school and was placed in a vocational training program for fashion design. Another of the girls was entering her final year of high school. In December we arranged a large Christmas party for the kids and any existing family members and for other poor families from the community. They were invited to our orphanage for a celebration where everyone was served a delicious meal and all the kids received presents for Christmas. In 2008 Latter Glory Ministries also reached out into the community in Hubli, India with a one week children's camp attended by 350 kids. Each day the kids were served one hot meal. The kids learned dances, dramas, songs and stories from the Bible. On the last night, the kids did all the songs, etc. on a large stage in the school compound, which was attended by about 1,000 people. Also in 2008, our organization promoted the orphanage with seminars and speaking engagements in various churches and small groups, and at our annual conference in Pittsburgh, PA in November 2008. Throughout 2009, our orphanage continued to take care of 18 children. The house parents, who live with and take care of the kids, continued on staff with us. They are doing an excellent job with the children during the kids' summer vacation from school, our staff took the children on an all day outing for a picnic and fun games. The staff also conducted a vacation Bible school for the kids. All the kids entered into a new school year in June 2009. We have two kids attending an English school, two kids in a college program, and the remaining fourteen in a Rotary school; all are receiving a good education. In December 2009 we had a special Christmas party; we also invited friends and relatives of our children to attend. Each child received a Christmas gift, and a special dinner was prepared for all to enjoy. We continued to support the same 18 children in our orphanage in Hubli, India throughout 2010. In February we finally decided on a name for our orphanage: Mahima Children's Home. Mahima means glory in the Indian language. Our children at Mahima Children's Home did several outreaches in their city in various churches. They did dramas dances and songs during the church services. The people really enjoyed it In May of 2010, the owners of the house we rent wanted to move back into their house, so we started to look for a new house for our orphanage. It was a very slow process, with not much available and ready to move into. The children did really well in school at all levels. At the end of 2010, we had our annual Christmas party; we invited many people to come join us. We fed all the people who came to the party and gave out Christmas presents to all the children. We had several conferences in Pittsburgh, PA, USA during 2010. Our purpose is always to raise awareness of our orphanage in India and to raise support for the orphanage. Suri and Tammy ministered to the people attending the conferences and encouraged their faith. Mahima Children's Home had a challenging, but fruitful 2011. There was much transition because of needing to relocate from the place we were renting to a new house. With several moves in two months, we found a small house to live in. Our goal is to find a larger house to rent or to eventually build our own building on a one acre piece of land. The children all had to change schools because of the new location where they live now. The children adjusted well though; all 18 of them are still with us One of the older girls received a scholarship for school, which was a great cause for celebration. What an accomplishment We held our annual Christmas program in December and invited some relatives and some families that were needy. We provided a delicious dinner, Christmas presents and our children sang and danced in our Christmas program. Throughout 2012, Mahima Children's Home continued to operate and function as in previous years. The children continue to receive a good, quality education. Our three older girls are in college now one is preparing for a career in tailoring, one for nursing and the other for engineering. We had a total of 18 children in our home. The house parents who look after the children are still there as well as all of our staff. We held a few camps and a special Christmas program. A school in Pennsylvania sponsored a lot of the Christmas presents and sent items with our president (Mr. Devaraj) to India. It has been a fruitful year at Mahima In 2013 Mahima Children's Home finally found a more suitable house for all of our children. The home is such a blessing to the staff and the children they care for. The same house parents have been directing the affairs of the orphanage since the beginning so well that the children consider them their mother and father. One of the older girls started nursing school. There are other older girls that are also in college. With the other children, we held various retreats and took them on a few short trips when they had vacation from school. We continue to see their lives being transformed into responsible citizens as a meaningful part of India's future. Latter Glory Ministries had another excellent year in 2014. Mahima Children's Home continued to house, feed, clothe, educate, and do so much more for the children in our orphanage. Several of the young people started college, and others continued their college education. One young woman is studying to be a nurse. Another is close to finishing her engineering degree. The smaller children continue to get educated in their various schools. We held our annual Christmas party; the children and staff all received their special Christmas gifts. Our staff members in India have been working with the Women and Children's Welfare Department (WCWD) that helps women and children be protected in India. Our staff attended various training courses and we are working with WCWD to better organize our children's home. In 2015, our orphanage continued taking care of children that have been entrusted into our care. They are all doing well and excelling in school. One of our girls graduated from engineering college and has a job and is well settled now. She was with us for ten years Throughout 2016, our Mahima Children's Home orphanage continued to take care of and educate many children. Our house parents who care for the children have been with us for thirteen years and they are a great blessing to the children. We had several young adults attending college this year as well as the younger ones attending their regular schools. We have been working closely with the local government organization that oversees orphanages in our area that we are required to report to on a regular basis. They visit our orphanage monthly and make sure the children are doing well. We had our annual Christmas party complete with food, gifts and lots of fun. We invited people from the community to attend. The children sang and performed skits. We are looking forward to 2017 At the end of July 2017, we returned to India for an extended visit, working with Mahima Children's Home and speaking at various churches and conferences. We reached out to many poor families in villages and supplied them with much needed hygiene products, clothing, and even helped them get medical attention. We held a few feeding programs as well in the village of Naregal. We worked hard at Mahima Children's Home, reorganizing the home and getting new water heater systems in both bathrooms. We bought new bedding and pillows for all the children and helped them organize their rooms. We met personally with each child's school administrators to see how they were doing academically. The last seven weeks of our time in India Solomon Deveraj got very ill with pneumonia and w
