About

Permanent supportive housing - The organization works with both for-profit and non-profit developers and property owners to create permanent housing options in Los Angeles County. Its partners include Hollywood Community Housing Corporation, Union Station Homeless Services, Gettlove, Women Organizing Resources Knowledge & Services (WORKS), Brilliant Corners, Coalition for Responsible Community Development and People Assisting the Homeless (PATH). Furthermore, Housing Works continues to serve tenants residing in project-based permanent supportive housing settings at A Community of Friends, Alternative Living for Aging, L.A. Family Housing and West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (WHCHC). Housing Works meets with private property owners to secure additional scattered-site units. The work of building community is about creating and fostering relationships. The organization cultivates the seeds of community by seeking opportunities with other agencies and property owners to identify housing options, both new and existing to serve low income individuals and families in need of permanent housing. As of June 30, 2019, 485 individuals were being served by the organization. 445 of these individuals were living in scattered site or project based housing setting and 40 of these individuals received outreach or housing placement or eviction prevention services through our Mobile Integrated Services Team. Geographic areas of concentration throughout Los Angeles County included Hollywood, Pasadena, Downtown, the San Fernando Valley, East and South Los Angeles. All heads of household served have a history of chronic homelessness, mental illness and co-occurring disorders. In 2018-2019, 44 new individuals were served. Geographic areas served are countywide with special focus on Hollywood, Pasadena, East Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley and South Los Angeles. Home First provides a community based solution that assists vulnerable individuals and families with obtaining and sustaining permanent housing. The work is particularly challenging due to lack of affordable housing. Since 2012, Housing Works partnered with the City of West Hollywood to provide housing replacement and retention services to the most vulnerable members of this community. This work will be continued in 2019-2020, housing 4 individuals who were homeless in West Hollywood.
