Description

In How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, Bill Gates lays out exactly where all of the 52 Billion tons of annual greenhouse gases are coming from and what we need to do to address them. Gates’ “it’s just about the numbers” approach spoke to me as an Engineer, but the part that mobilized me was the very last chapter, “What Each of Us Can Do.” Gates writes that “a lot of the relevant decisions are made at the state and local levels.” Searching for a way to have an impact at the local scale brought me to Climate Solutions Accelerator. Their vision is focused on catalyzing local efforts to address climate change. Among other initiatives, they provide a toolkit called Color Your Community Green, which municipalities can utilize to organize, advocate for, and advance their specific climate opportunities. I strongly believe that non-partisan, community-based action is the single biggest way that individuals can work towards addressing climate change.

Your donation will go toward mobilizing climate action at the local level in the Genesee-Finger Lakes region of New York. It’s a nonpartisan way to support specific solutions in our communities, like municipal legislation, equitable access to clean energy upgrades, and empowerment of young people inheriting the climate crisis.
