Four Reasons We Give to Charity

The Daffy Team

· 3 min read

The average donor was more generous in 2021 than ever, according to a new report from Blackbaud. Not only is overall giving and online giving growing, but employees are paying more attention to how they, and their workplace, can make the world a better place.

All over the world, it seems there is a collective movement that is eager to give back and do more good. At Daffy, we are fortunate to be building a community around the commitment to give, and our team is no exception.

Behind the scenes at Daffy, our team members have a passion for philanthropy, and while our giving back goals and origin stories may be different, we’ve all come together on our mission to help people be more generous, more often.

We’re sure you have your own reasons for giving back, so perhaps reading our team's reasons will allow you to reflect on why you give back and who or what inspired you to be more generous. Who knows, maybe they’ll even inspire you to set your own giving goal for the year if you haven’t already.

1. Giving Back Makes Our Communities Stronger

Whether you live in a small town or in a big city, you likely have a community (or even communities) you belong to—and want to support. And there is power in this community. Giving back can give us meaning and help us feel as though we’re part of something bigger. So when you give back, you help the people who are most vulnerable have a better chance at success. When they succeed, they can give back to the community as well. And when they do, everyone benefits, whether or not they're directly involved in the giving.

2. Actions Matter

We know that if we want to impact change, our actions matter. Whether we are simply an advocate towards a certain cause, donating to our favorite nonprofit, or volunteering at our local organizations, the action of giving back makes a difference.

3.  Recognizing Privilege

No matter where you are in the world, you may have been taught the notion that what you give is what you get back. But for many of the individuals on our team, giving back is simply the act of acknowledging your own privilege and using the power and resources you have to help those less fortunate.

4. Spark Joy

According to Dr. Elizabeth Dunn, a social psychologist at the University of British Columbia, science suggests giving makes us happy and your reason for giving can truly be as simple as that.

Whether you give back to bring your community closer, inspire change, help those less fortunate, or spark a little joy in your life we all have our reasons for giving.

If this passion inspires you to see a giving goal for this year, be sure to share it with us on Twitter at @DaffyGiving. We’d love to help you meet it.
