Oakes Children’s Center is dedicated to providing education and mental health services to youth with emotional and/or developmental challenges and to their families, particularly in underserved communities. Our goal is to foster the social, emotional and educational growth necessary for children to continue learning and fully realize their potential.  We fulfill our mission by providing individualized education, innovative and culturally-responsive therapeutic services, comprehensive assessment, and clinical training.

During the 2017-2018, FYE 6/30/2018, Oakes Children's Center, Inc. (OCC) continued to operate the following programs. Funds from CBHS - Community Behavioral Health Services CEEP: OCC provides a very high teacher-to-student ratio and complete educational services, including individualized curriculum planning, computer training, life skills, and specialized reading instructions and social skills curriculum. OCC provides extensive mental health services to enable children to succeed in the least restrictive setting possible. OCC's mental health services include individual therapy, play therapy, family therapy and support, creative arts therapy, crisis intervention, and psychological assessment. Out-Patient Clinic: OCC serves developmentally delayed and emotionally disturbed children and adolescents, including graduates of the OCC Counseling Enrichment Educational Program (CEEP), whose special needs cannot be met elsewhere. OCC also provides parent support through its out-patient clinic.Partnership Program: OCC works within the public schools to give special education students, their families, and their teachers the support they need to succeed. Therapists work with students individually and in groups, and also provide consultation to teachers and families. This collaborative program helps children to continue learning in a mainstream setting.Group Therapy Program: OCC offers socialization groups for children with pervasive developmental disorders. The groups focus on peer relations, development of interests, and age appropriate behaviors. Children, ranging in age from five to eighteen, come to OCC from public schools across San Francisco.Training Program: OCC trains tomorrow's mental health and teaching professionals to best meet the needs of developmentally delayed and emotionally disturbed children and their families. OCC provides extensive training through seminars, hands on experience, and professional supervision to graduate and undergraduate students from several San Francisco area universities and professional schools. OCC's training program is APA Accredited.
