CISA's local hero program educates people about the benefits of farms, farming, and local agriculture. The local hero program reaches residents through events, publications, individual outreach, press, and CISA's online presence. In 2018, CISA's activities, programs, and highlights of local farms were the subject of 205 newspaper articles, radio, and TV news stories, and over 800 radio, TV, and print ads and PSA's, and over 1 million impressions via online advertising. Sixty-thousand copies of our farm products guide were distributed. To inform residents and visitors about the benefits of local farms and farming, over 12,000 people receive monthly e-mail information from CISA or Facebook updates and CISA reaches at least an additional 2,000 people through attendance at CISA events, community festivals, fairs, and farmers' markets. CISA's website recorded over 52,000 users and 422,250 page views in 2018. In 2018, participants in CISA's local hero program included 265 farms, 43 retailers, 64 restaurants, and 40 institutions (hospitals, universities, schools, and senior living facilities) and specialty products manufacturers. Ninety percent of farmers surveyed were satisfied with the program.
